Sustainability at Destrooper Biscuits
Sustainability is at the heart of our Farm Brothers brand, given their mission to create healthy soil for future generations. But what else do we do? Discover all the latest news about our sustainability efforts here.
Solar panels on our sites
Back in 2010, 360 solar panels were installed at our site in Lo, where our Visitor Center is located. Ypres has since been equipped with an impressive 2,000 additional solar panels . Another 500 solar panels are expected by the end of this year.
Thanks to the solar panels, 100% of the electricity in our Visitor Centre in Lo is generated by solar panels; in Ypres, this is more than 25%.
Quality ingredients
From the very beginning, Destrooper Biscuits has chosen natural, honest ingredients with clear, preferably local, origins. Approximately 90% of the raw materials we purchase are sourced from the EU. Our Farm Brothers products are palm oil-free, organic, and vegan.
Certificates
We choose Belgian chocolate and all our chocolate products carry the Rainforest Alliance Certificate .
To do our part to improve the working conditions and wages of cocoa farmers and end deforestation, we signed the Beyond Chocolate initiative in 2023.
Our entire organization is IFS and BRC certified , and our products meet high standards for product quality and food safety. We have also successfully completed the SMETA audit , which demonstrates an ethically responsible supply chain.
Recyclable packaging
Since we make our cookies without artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, packaging plays an important role in extending the shelf life of our products.
Today, we use recycled (GD2) cardboard for most of our packaging. Our blister packs are also all recyclable .
Electric vehicle fleet
Since 2023, we have been transitioning to a fully electric fleet , with an extensive number of charging stations in both Oostkamp and Ypres.
